Snowboarding

The natural, steep and deep terrain of Red Mountain Resort's terrain is legendary among the free riding snowboarding world as one of the best powder, backcountry and tree riding experiences in the world.

An ownership and management change in 2004 brought about a reinvigoration of the mountain and fresh new faces and new ideas to the resort. One of these faces, Erik Kalacis originally hired as the Marketing director and now the general manager of the mountain brought his strong events background to Red and has developed a new Snowboard Cross venue as well as putting a new emphasis on the terrain park at Red.

As the past director of the Swatch Boarder Cross Series and the produced of the Snowboard Cross event at the 2002 Winter Olympics Erik has designed and pushed the development of the new snowbaord cross track which has won rave reviews from high level athletes.

In 2008 the Cross course hosted the BC Snowboard Cross championships and Western Canadian Snowboard Cross championships. Based on the success of the course in its first year both events have returned for the 2009 season built on the back of a succesful innaugural event and top reviews from participants and organizers.

Along with Snowboard Cross Red also provides an ideal location for alpine racing events on it's two fully wired alpine racing venues for GS or Parallel GS events on Red Mountain Proper as well a top notch terrain park, both located directly above the base lodge in a spectator friendly environment.

Red's natural assets of two side by side natural riding mountains, consistent snowfall, over 2,000 hours of sunshine each year coupled with it's small town stmosphere, distraction free environment and a large team of dedicated volunteers provides the ideal location for snowboarding events and training or just plain having fun and enjoying all that is Red.
